Beatles Purple Chick Megaupload Links

It's come to my belated attention that there are many Beatles "Purple Chick" FLAC files on the internet. You can do your own search for "Megaupload", "Purple Chick" & "6plus3" on Google and go to the "cached" pages (down at the bottom of the links). Likewise if you're interested in the Dr. Ebbetts Mono Series of Beatles stuff, search with the terms "6plus3", "Beatles" & "Dr. Ebbetts". The original wordpress 6plus9 blog pages have disappeared. Make sure to go to the last page of the search results and select "repeat the search with the omitted results included" to find the most complete listings if the above hyper links don't work.

I suppose it's inevitable that something Beatles related finds a home on my blog. Aside from my family, The Beatles have always been the most formidable influence on me. Their music is the only way I managed to survive adolescence. My favorite Beatles albums are Revolver and Abbey Road. I love everything from Rubber Soul till the end but there's a bunch of alternate takes from the "Let It Be/Get Back Sessions" that I can do without, ditto that for "The Beatles".

Sgt. Pepper is great, it's the first Beatles album I listened to in its entirety, my father bought it the summer it came out. We played it and played it and played it. I loved "Within, Without You" and "Lovely Rita" in particular.

I'd grown up in the classical world. My mom played with the opera, symphony and chamber groups, so I'd always listened to tons of music growing up and liked it all. There wasn't much popular and rock stuff in my life until a next door neighbor gave me an old Zenith tube radio. It must have dated to somewhere in the late fifties because it had two marks on the dial to tell you where to tune, in case of an eminent nuclear attack, whilst you were kissing your ass goodbye.

Until I heard the Abbey Road track "Oh Darling" on the old Zenith, which got some relatively rare Beatles airplay (in Charlotte,NC anyway), I didn't really start collecting the Beatles in earnest. I had a friend in school, Really Wright (really!), who was on top of the Beatles, so we heard the 45's "She Loves You" and "I Want To Hold Your Hand" back in 2nd grade during recess when we had the chance. I drug my parents to the radio while "Yesterday" was in rotation on the airwaves, I thought it had a fantastic melody and wanted them to hear it.

Christmas of '69 I received Abbey Road as a present. It started an obsession. I wore the album out, listening to "Come Together" and "Here Comes The Sun". In early 1970, I scraped together enough money to join the Beatles Fan Club, not knowing they'd already made their last music together and would shortly announce the breakup. I did manage to get the complete Beatles Fan Club Christmas Recordings on album, a Fan Club Book which was like a diary and a cool cube promoting Let It Be. All these were consolation prizes for the breakup I suppose.

About the only thing I could tell myself in solace, was that there would be music times four. Instant Karma, Maybe I'm Amazed, Imagine and All Things Must Must Pass kept me optimistic but the releases went down hill from there and became spotty.

All the definitive mixes for the Beatles recordings are on the mono album releases. The stereo mixes were done as an after thought, with only "Let It Be" & "Abbey Road" being mixed primarily for stereo. Capitol records dinked with the earlier Beatle albums in the US. If you are into the albums for the music and not the nostalgia, then what you want to hear are the uncompromised British Albums in mono. I do have a soft spot for the American release of Yesterday and Today but all those songs are scattered throughout the British releases.

Maybe someday EMI will see fit to do right by the Beatles material and release proper updated remasterings of the stereo and mono versions. It would make sense to do this utilizing somebody who was originally involved such as Geoff Emmerick, while they're still around. But that's probably not going to happen, so these Purple Chick releases are perhaps the best issues of Beatle material we'll ever end up with.

The 6plus3 blog is in process of coming back online at http://6plus3.blogspot.com/. Please visit this blog for the most up to date information. There are some links there, you just have to find them. This has been a heroic effort, thanks Paul!

Thanks to everyone who has worked on these tracks, I've heard several and they sound way better than the CD's I have. Nothing like a pristine album for the very best sound.

One program recommended for FLAC (lossless audio format) conversions to wave and MP3 formats is DBpoweramp Converter. There are a bunch of other programs out there that will do similar things.

I will not be able to reply to requests for help with FLAC, searching for additional items etc. etc. The following links are provided for historical and reference purposes only!

Ben -- Thanks for the awesome links. One thing: 06 All I've Got To Do (mono) from With The Beatles mono edition is coming up with an error. Any chance you could post a link for the corrected file?

Thanks!

Ben! Thank you so much for these postings! I was wondering if you have the other 8 discs of the White Album portion?

Sorry I don't have the full White Album listings. My interests lay with the core albums so I didn't make note of all the links to the outtakes etc.
